The Family Tree

The Family Tree, scratchboard and ink, 10 x 8 in., 2020

So, I had planned on making a Covid-19 series and started this piece. And then my mother-in-law got the virus and died from it. And 2 weeks later my father died from it. And then my mother got it. She is recovering at home. I didn’t work on this piece for a while. I am not sure I have it in me to make a series. This piece is for our parents.

  1. Nancy, this image appeared in my email feed and I immediately loved it, so beautiful and intricate. Then I read your words. I am so sorry to hear of what your family has gone through – to lose one close family member, then another so soon must have been very hard to bear. The US is in such a sad state with this awful virus. I do hope you will be able to continue with this series, it is such a wonderful tribute to your parents.

    1. Thank you Anna. Since I admire your art so much it always means a lot to me when you have good things to say about my work. Thank you for what you said about my losses. It has been a very difficult time for my family. It is a tough time here in NYC.

      1. NYC must be a very scary place to be right now – SO sad. It is one of my favourite cities in the world, the people are so full of energy, its just a great city. One day this will be all over, but it will have such a terrible impact. I’m thinking of you.
