Silvercane

Silvercane, scratchboard and ink, 5 x 7 in., 2021

My sister and I had two imaginary horses—Silvercane and Sack. Silvercane was my horse. My sister named her horse Sack because she thought it was a very fancy name. We would ride our horses around the park and then get on our bikes and ride home for dinner. My sister had a make-believe human friend who was my dog’s cousin, but I don’t recall ever meeting her.

I remember many animals from my childhood, some of them real. I’ve always loved animals and art. There were many years when both were missing from my life.
