Sha’ar Hashamayim Synagogue

Sha’ar Hashamayim Synagogue, scratchboard, 8 x 10 in., 2026

This is the third piece in my Old and Ancient Synagogue Series. Work on this Cairo synagogue began in 1899 and it opened in 1908. At that time there was a large Jewish community in Cairo. I believe today only a few dozen Jews remain (mostly elderly).
